The perimeter of your network — the part that touches the outside world — is where you can make some of the biggest gains in network security. When securing your company’s network, it’s best to start on the edges — the perimeter — where the system interfaces with the rest of the world. It’s an approach that makes sense. While installing safeguards deep inside the network is a good idea for securing against some types of threats, you’ll generally get the broadest protection — and the biggest bang for your security buck — by building up protection along the edges.
